About the event

Chris Smither is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter celebrated for his distinctive blend of blues, folk, and Americana. Born in Miami and raised in New Orleans, he developed his signature finger-picking guitar style after discovering the music of blues legend Lightnin’ Hopkins.

Encouraged by folk musician Eric von Schmidt, Smither moved to Boston in the 1960s, where the city’s thriving coffeehouse scene helped launch his career.

Over more than five decades, Smither has earned a reputation as a masterful guitarist, insightful lyricist, and captivating live performer, known for combining driving rhythmic foot percussion with a warm baritone voice.

His songs have been recorded by artists including Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Diana Krall, helping introduce his work to audiences across genres.

With a steady stream of critically acclaimed recordings — from his early 1970s albums to recent releases such as Call Me Lucky and All About the Bones (2024) — Smither remains a vital and influential voice in American roots music.
