Walt Wilkins and Tina Mitchell are two of Texas’ most respected songwriters, but their story began far from home—in Nashville, 1994. Walt, a San Antonio native, had left a dream job with the Texas Film Commission to chase a songwriting career. Tina, raised in California, moved to Music City after a life-changing visit to the Bluebird Café and a well-timed earthquake that upended her LA life.

They met at Sammy B’s, a popular Music Row bar where Tina bartended and Walt often took breaks from writing. Their connection grew slowly—first as friends, then something more. “I cried the first time I heard his music,” Tina recalled. “It just melted me.”

After a long courtship, they married in 2000 in White Sands, New Mexico. A year later, their son Luke was born, and by 2003, they moved to Texas to raise him close to family.

Now celebrating over 20 years of marriage, Walt and Tina continue to create and perform together. With new music on the way—Walt’s Pedernales and Tina’s single Twilight—their bond as partners and artists remains stronger than ever.
