Texas singer-songwriter Sahara Smith creates Cinemascope-like wide-screen portraits of romantic passion, loneliness and unrequited love in her richly impressive, intensely soulful debut album.” -Los Angeles Times
“Her musical sophistication and the uncanny maturity of her lyrics astonished me – gave me chills – and made me realize (a little sadly) that it had been a long time since I’d been enthralled. What a wonder, to be enthralled again. After the show I told her and anyone else who would listen, ‘You’re the most gifted young performer I’ve seen in 26 years.’ ” -The Austin Chronicle
Hailing from the Texas Hill Country, Sahara Smith began her professional music career in 2003 when, at the age of 15, she placed second in A Prairie Home Companion’s ‘Talent from 12-20’ contest.
Sahara went on to win Best Female Vocalist, Best Folk Act, and Best Songwriter at the 2010-2011 Austin Music Awards after the release of her debut album Myth of the Heart, a project that was shepherded by legendary producer T Bone Burnett.
She has performed on David Letterman and served as tour support for acts including Marc Cohn, Mason Jennings, and Nathaniel Rateliff.
Her original music has been featured in film and on television, including NBC’s Parenthood, Midnight Texas, The Choice, and When Angels Sing.
While with her previous label, Smith recorded two albums in addition to Myth that have, as of yet, remained unreleased.
She continues to work as a performing and recording musician, in addition to composing soundtracks, working as a music instructor, and raising her daughter. She hopes to have a new self-released album to share with you soon.
