Loreta Kovacic, known as “the Texas Slav” and “Dr. K,” is a Houston-based pianist, singer-songwriter, and multicultural artist with a genre-blending style.

Classically trained, she shifted focus after tendonitis, embracing a wider musical range.

Her ninth album, The Texas Slav (2023), draws from her international roots and Houston life, featuring tracks like “Houston,” “Galveston,” and “Fa fa familia.”

Her music has even been played aboard the International Space Station.

A Doctor of Music from Rice University, Dr. K performs with her band, the Texas Slavs—Joe Parani (theremin), Jeff Vyner (drums), Bryan McVicker (bass), and Robert Sutton (guitar)—delighting audiences of all ages.
