For nineteen years Reckless Kelly has been doing things their way, bucking the mainstream system and playing by their own rules, straddling the fence between country and rock as if they built it themselves. Throughout the years their old school approach to recording has always adhered to one main objective: make each record better than the last. Their latest effort, “Good Luck & True Love” is no exception to this rule.

That’s country rock. That’s old school. That’s Reckless Kelly.

Food and drink separate.

Artist Spotlight: Reckless Kelly

Reckless Kelly is a country rock band that has called Austin home for over 20 years, playing countless shows and crafting several successful albums. The band is headed by brothers Cody and Willy Braun, both taking on lead vocals and playing four different instruments between the two of them. Alongside the Braun brothers, David Abeyta, Jay “Nazziola” Nazz, and Joe Miller make up the present-day Reckless Kelly.

Born to Play

Willy and Cody Braun have music in their blood, no question about it. They are related to an icon of music history, bandleader Lawrence Welk, and their father was also a dedicated musician, experiencing great success with his own band, even appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny. The very beginnings of Reckless Kelly came about in October of 1996, just before the Braun brothers relocated to the music city of Austin. From there, the rest was history.

A Storied Career

After debuting in Austin, Reckless Kelly found themselves playing crowded shows on Austin’s historic Sixth Street, with their growing popularity turning a local restaurant where they played into a well-known music venue. Countless other famous Austin venues invited Reckless Kelly to play shows at their location, and before the band knew it, they were recording their first of many albums.

From there, things really took off. They were nominated for their first Grammy in 2011, and took home the award in 2013. Reckless Kelly has worked with big labels like Sugar Hill and Yep Roc, and even created their own label, No Big Deal.

It is their signature Americana sound, lyrical genius, independent spirit, and dedication to serving their local community through charity that really sets Reckless Kelly apart. They are not just another band in the Austin area, they are a pillar of the city.

Sunset Motel is the latest album release from Reckless Kelly, with “How Can You Love Him (You Don’t Even Like Him)” being one of the standout tracks that truly demonstrates the talent, personality, and distinctive style of the band.
