Two-time Grammy Award winner, Gary Nicholson, will bring his six piece Texas All-Star Band, Whitey Johnson, to McGonigel’s Mucky Duck on September 2 at 9:30. Gary is an inductee in the Texas Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, a world traveling performer, session guitarist and producer. Gary’s band, Whitey Johnson, includes Grammy Award winning musicians Derek O’Brien and Kaz Kazanoff and will perform a show of “feel better blues.”

A native Texan now Nashville based, Gary has written over 600 songs that major artists have recorded including blues artists BB King, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, Delbert McClinton; country artists Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Emmylou Harris; and rock artists Ringo Starr, Robert Plant, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks.

The newly released title song on Ringo Starr’s new album was co-written with Gary as were recently released cuts by Michael McDonald, Blues Brothers, Joe Bonamassa, George Thorogood, Willie Nelson and Taj Mahal. Gary Nicholson’s song, “Falling and Flying” was performed by Jeff Bridges and featured in the Oscar-winning film “Crazy Heart”.

As a guitarist, Gary has played with Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, Bobby Bare, Delbert McClinton and Tracy Nelson.

“Whitey Johnson” is Gary Nicholson in a fancy white suit with six world class musicians behind him. This band is great blues performed with expertise, attitude, a bit of magic and a sense of humor.

McGonigel’s Mucky Duck will give Houston an opportunity to hear some of Gary’s familiar songs done the way they were meant to be.

McGonigel’s Mucky Duck is known for the “livest music in Texas” and offers great sound and a limited bar menu.  The venue received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2017.
