Hailing from La Porte, the band takes its cues from the Akron/Family-Okkervil River reintroduction of subtlety and eccentricity into the rock scene. Buxton may be the hottest band to germinate along the Houston Ship Channel ”Deer Park and La Porte, specifically” since Michael Haaga's deadhorse bit the dust.
Recently signed to New West Records, these eager, fresh, still un-jaded youngsters suddenly find themselves submerged in the business side of the music business. But that's a pleasant problem to wrestle with for a young band set to release its second album and heading to South By Southwest for some high-profile showcases. - Houston Press
"...an album that weaves heartbreaking tales and thoughtful musicianship with folk, country and indie-rock ideas to create an electric, exciting collection of songs" - Sara Cress, The Houston Chronicle
"Simply put, this album's a stunner...the band has an all-too-rare sense of dynamics and knack for strong choruses and male-female, call-and-response vocals." - John Nova Lomax, Houston Press
"Straight out of LaPorte, out in the Houston 'burbs, comes some of the coolest mostly-acoustic music you're likely to hear this side of Austin. Buxton are one of a small handful of indie-folk bands in town who've taken the current folk idiom and pulled it backwards to an earlier time, and they're one of the best around, for my money, in or out of Houston." - Pedro, Space City Rock
"Buxton, as always, were at their very best. Their skillful instrumentation adds so much to the intelligently penned, but sometimes almost harrowing, lyrics of lead singer Sergio Trevino. We were treated to several new songs over the course of Buxton's short set, but the true highlight of the evening was their singalong "Mane Of Gold" followed closely by the rambunctious, mandolin-heavy "Westward"" - Eggs, Breakfast on Tour
